23 March 2020, Brandenburg, Lebus: A Border Collie lies next to an Adonis rose blossom on the Oder slopes in the district of Märkisch-Oderland north of Frankfurt (Oder). The mild temperatures of the last few days have led to the blossoming of the Adonis roses particularly early this year. The area between Lebus an der Oder and Mallnow at the Oderbruch edge in East Brandenburg is one of the largest contiguous Adonis rose areas in Europe. In Brandenburg these strictly protected species only occur on the Pontic Hills north of Frankfurt (Oder). The area was declared a Trockerasen nature reserve for the poisonous flowers in 1984.
