Data reports indicate that 433 elephant deaths have been recorded in Sri Lanka in the last year of 2022. The majority of these deaths are related to elephant-human conflict. Littering, traps, shootings, and road accidents have also contributed to the elephant deaths. Also, data reports indicate that 145 humans died in 2022 due to elephant-human conflict. These elephants have also influenced the development of Sri Lanka‘s tourism industry. One of the main reasons for the escalation of elephant-human conflict is the occupation of elephant habitat by humans. Elephant deaths are on the rise every year.
