    Florida News - October 1, 2021

October 1, 2021, Indian Rocks Beach, Florida, USA: Melissa Caulfield, 46, takes in the scene on the beach at the 17th Avenue access point where there is a Modi Mat installed, which allows for wheelchair access on the sand, though not too far down. Melissa is diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and uses a wheelchair to ambulate. She hopes access is improved by installing more Modi Mats, in a T shape, which would allow for more wheelchairs on the mats at a time and facilitate movement along the beach. ââ¬ÅMake the mats longer so that my friends and I can get closer to the water, Melissa said. ââ¬ÅIââ¬â¢d like the ability to roll with friends.ââ¬Â Although Melissa loves the beach but has only been twice in seven years. ââ¬ÅIt has a calming effect,ââ¬Â she said of the scene by the water. October 1, 2021, Indian Rocks Beach, Florida, USA: Caitlin Hoel, 30, relaxes while listening to the sounds of the water from her spot at the end of the boardwalk. This specific access point to the beach did not have a Modi Mat so that Terry Hoel, Caitlinââ¬â¢s mom, could push her wheelchair closer to the water. Moments before, Caitlin seemed restless, moving from side to side and making noises as if wanting to express discomfort. Caitlin is diagnosed with Aicardi Syndrome and is non-verbal. As soon as she could hear the waves on the shore she calmed, Friday, October 1, 2021 in Indian Rocks Beach.
