Eli Whitney (1765-1825) American inventor and manufacturer

Eli Whitney (1765-1825) American inventor and manufacturer, born at Westborough, Massachusetts. Credited with the invention of the cotton gin (1793) to separate cotton fibre from seeds and seedpods, dramatically increasing the amount of cotton that could be processed in a day and so revolutionising the American cotton growing industry. Equally important was his introduction of interchangeable parts, an innovation which led to the growth of mass production in the nineteenth century and the production of cheap goods. From ‘The Century Magazine‘ (New York, 1887). 、クレジット:World History Archive/ニューズコム/共同通信イメージズ ※エディトリアル使用のみ。広告、プロモーション、商業目的での利用に関してはお問合せください。

Graves Still Dug by Hand at Oldest Cemetery in the United States

April 16, 2019, New Haven, Connecticut, USA: The burial place of Eli Whitney (December 8, 1765 Ã January 8, 1825), whose inventions include the cotton gin, a key to the industrial revolution that helped shape the economy of the South, at Grove Street Cemetery, the first chartered, planned cemetery in the United States (1796) where the existing graves are too close together, and too old and unstable to dig new graves using heavy machinery.
