Nasa Space Telescope Delivers Spectacular Pictures

★Handout photo - An enormous mosaic of Stephanâs Quintet is the largest image to date from NASAâs James Webb Space Telescope, covering about one-fifth of the Moonâs diameter. It contains over 150 million pixels and is constructed from almost 1,000 separate image files. The visual grouping of five galaxies was captured by Webbâs Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) and Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI). With its powerful, infrared vision and extremely high spatial resolution, Webb shows never-before-seen details in this galaxy group. Sparkling clusters of millions of young stars and starburst regions of fresh star birth grace the image. Sweeping tails of gas, dust and stars are being pulled from several of the galaxies due to gravitational interactions. Most dramatically, Webbâs MIRI instrument captures huge shock waves as one of the galaxies, NGC 7318B, smashes through the cluster. These regions su=2022(令和4)年7月12日、クレジット:ABACA/共同通信イメージズ

Jupiter Seen Through Webbâs Infrared Gaze

★Fans of Jupiter will recognize some familiar features of our solar systemâs enormous planet in these images seen through Webbâs infrared gaze. A view from the NIRCam instrumentâs short-wavelength filter shows distinct bands that encircle the planet as well as the Great Red Spot, a storm big enough to swallow the Earth. The iconic spot appears white in this image because of the way Webbâs infrared image was processed. âCombined with the deep field images released [earlier], these images of Jupiter demonstrate the full grasp of what Webb can observe, from the faintest, most distant observable galaxies to planets in our own cosmic backyard that you can see with the naked eye from your actual backyard,â said Bryan Holler, a scientist at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, who helped plan these observations. Webb Captures Stellar Gymnastics In The Cartwheel Galaxy

★Handout - This image of the Cartwheel and its companion galaxies is a composite from Webbâs Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) and Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI), which reveals details that are difficult to see in the individual images alone. This galaxy formed as the result of a high-speed collision that occurred about 400 million years ago. The Cartwheel is composed of two rings, a bright inner ring and a colorful outer ring. Both rings expand outward from the center of the collision like shockwaves. However, despite the impact, much of the character of the large, spiral galaxy that existed before the collision remains, including its rotating arms. This leads to the âspokesâ that inspired the name of the Cartwheel Galaxy, which are the bright red streaks seen between the inner and outer rings. These brilliant red hues, located not only throughout the Cartwheel, but also the companion spiral=2022(令和4)年8月2日、クレジット:ABACA/共同通信イメージズ

    Webb Captures Spiral Galaxy

February 16, 2023 - Space - Scientists are getting their first look with NASAs James Webb Space Telescopes powerful resolution how the formation of young stars influences the evolution of nearby galaxies. NGC 1365, observed here by Webbâs Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) is one of a total of 19 galaxies targeted for study by the Physics at High Angular resolution in Nearby Galaxies (PHANGS) collaboration. In the MIRI observations of NGC 1365, clumps of dust and gas in the interstellar medium has absorbed the light from forming stars and emitted it back out in the infrared, lighting up an intricate network of cavernous bubbles and filamentary shells influenced by young stars releasing energy into the galaxys spiral arms. NGC 1365 is a double barred spiral galaxy that lies about 56 million light years away from Earth. Its one of the largest galaxies currently known to astronomers, spanning twice the length of the Milky Way across (Credit Image: © STScI/NASA/ZUMA Press Wire Service)、クレジット:©STScI/NASA/ZUMA Press...
