    Bischofsornat employs scientists

20 November 2018, Saxony-Anhalt, Halle (Saale): During conservation, the part of a mitre lies in the restoration workshop of the Landesmuseum in Halle/Saale. The mitre is part of the festive ornate in which Magdeburg Archbishop Otto of Hesse (1301-1361) was buried. A textile restorer is currently meticulously examining the vestments in which the church prince was buried 657 years ago in the tomb of Magdeburg Cathedral. With the conservation of the textiles, the experts are breaking new ground. While the conservation work on Otto‘s funeral will take years, the archaeological investigations on Queen Editha (910-946) and Archbishop Wichmann of Seeburg-Querfurt (1116-1192) have been completed. Since the beginning of November individual pieces from the bishop‘s graves have been exhibited in the Dommuseum Magdeburg, a few are still missing.
