Calling for bringing ‘comfort woman‘ issue to ICJ Calling for bringing ‘comfort woman‘ issue to ICJ

Calling for bringing ‘comfort woman‘ issue to ICJRep. Kim Gi-hyeon (R) of the main opposition People Power Party poses for a photo with Lee Yong-soo, a victim of the Japanese military‘s sexual slavery during World War II, while promising his help at his office at the National Assembly in Seoul on March 5, 2021. Lee visited the Assembly to call for it to bring the “comfort women“ issue to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The request came in the wake of Harvard professor Mark Ramseyer‘s recent claim in his paper titled “Contracting For Sex In The Pacific War“ that comfort women were not sex slaves but prostitutes who voluntarily worked in Japanese military brothels. Comfort women refer to around 200,000 Asian women, mostly Koreans, who were forcibly taken to front-line military brothels by the Japanese army during the war.
