    Schist relief panel depicting the division of the Buddha‘s relics, from Gandhara, 2nd century. A table with thick, elaborately turned legs dominates the panel. A densely worked textile covers it, on which sit eight reliquaries. The brahmin Drona stands behind the table, in the middle of the scene, flanked by the princes. Guards holding spears flank the table legs. In the next frame stands a bare torsoed female figure with one hand on her hip, and the other holding on to the branch of a tree. According to the ancient Sanskrit text, the Mahaparinirvana-sutra, the Buddha himself gave detailed instructions for the cremation of his body and the preservation of his relics. He apparently died in the kingdom of the Mallas of Kushinagara and they performed the final rites and ceremonies as he had sanctioned.     ウズベクの踊り子たち シルクロードに思いはせ

    中央アジアのウズベキスタン南部にある古都ブハラ。サンスクリット語で「僧院」を意味する言葉が、町の名の由来とされる。9世紀に黄金期を迎え、13世紀にモンゴル帝国により壊滅。再興した16世紀当時の姿がほぼそのまま現在の旧市街に残る。夕方、空はあかね色に染まり、17世紀初頭に建てられたマドラサ(イスラム神学校)の中庭で民族舞踊のコンサートが始まった。色鮮やかな衣装を身にまとった踊り子たちが、ウズベクの太鼓や笛、弦楽器のメロディーに合わせて舞を披露。手や指先をしなやかに動かし体を回転させると、この地域独特の刺しゅうが入った衣装の裾もふわりと宙を舞った。いつの間にかあたりは幻想的な雰囲気に包まれ、シルクロード交易で栄えたはるか昔の時代にタイムスリップしたかのようだった。(撮影・畠山卓也、共同)

    「新華社」古代シルクロードへのいざないトルファン博物館必見の文物3点

    中国新疆ウイグル自治区のトルファンは、古代ユーラシア大陸の交通の要衝に位置し、古代シルクロードの重要都市、また東方と西方の経済が合流する場所でもあった。2万点以上の文化財を所蔵するトルファン博物館は、輝かしい中国文明の生きた化石であり、西域シルクロードが育んだ最高の精華を体現する場となっている。今回はその中から特に必見の三つの文物を紹介する。一つ目の「絹絵伏羲女媧図(きぬえふくぎじょかず)」は、トルファンのアスターナ古墓から出土した。絹地に白、赤、黄、黒の4色で、中国の伝説上の創世神とされる二神の姿が描かれている。共に上半身が人で下半身はヘビの姿をしており、伏羲は左手に「矩(曲尺)」を、女媧は右手に「規(コンパス)」を持っている。シルクロードと言えば、絹織物を抜きにしては語れない。二つ目は錦の織物を紹介する。専門家は「聯珠鳥紋錦」の制作技術や史料の記載を基に、この種の文様を持つ錦織は黄河中・下流の中原地域でペルシャやソグドの文様を模倣して織られ、シルクロードを通じて西域各地に売られたと考えている。この小さな絹製品から、当時のシルクロード貿易の繁栄ぶりをうかがい知ることができる。経済や貿易に加え、トルファンは多元的な文化が混じり合う場所でもあった。三つ目の文化財として、一組の文書を紹介する。トルファンでは古来、18種類の文字と25種類の言語が用いられてきた。まずは唐王朝時代の暦で、現在の黄暦(旧暦)に相当する。トルファン博物館の所蔵品にはブラーフミー文字や回鶻(かいこつ)の文書、西夏文字やサンスクリット語、チャガタイ語などの文字史料が含まれている。同博物館にはこれらの他にも非常に豊富な文化財が収蔵されており、そのどれもが古代シルクロードの繁栄を今に伝えている。(記者/馬鍇、丁磊、張研、張鍾凱) =配信日: 2021(令和3)年5月19日、クレジット:新華社/共同通信イメージズ
