Deadly Impact Of Cyclone ‘‘YAAS‘‘ In Sundarbans

May 25, 2021, Kolkata, West Bengal, India: In Sundarbans Fraserganj , due to cyclone ‘‘yaas‘‘ the sea water has completely wiped out the small huts of the fishermen. Super cyclone ‘‘YAAS‘‘ hit the land on the 26th of May, 2021 on the southern side of Balasore. Eventhough it lies almost 240 km away from Sundarbans it has left the deltaic region in ruins. Several smaller inhabited islands like Ghoramara, Mousuni, Sagar, Frasergunj, Kultali, etc. went underwater. The cyclone along with high tide and lunar eclipse culminated into a disaster. Almost 70 lakh people have lost their means to live. Neither do they have a shelter to live in nor food to eat or water to drink. The water has taken away everything. The ferocious sea waves breached the water embankments in nearly 134 places. Agricultural lands now cannot be distinguished from the sea. The total damages are estimated to be around 2 billion USD.
