2019年08月04日First Temple Period Papyrus Repatriated to IsraelAugust 4, 2019, Jerusalem, Israel: Conservation efforts of a rare First Temple period papyrus in the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) Scrolls Conservation Laboratory. The IAA is using the term ââ¬Ëintelligence operationââ¬â¢ to describe the repatriation to Israel of an extremely rare document from the First Temple period, dated to the late 7th or early 6th century BCE, one of only three papyri from this period in the collection of the Israel National Treasures. The document, dubbed the ââ¬ËIshmael Papyrusââ¬â¢, is written in ancient Hebrew script, was probably found in the Judean Desert caves and is composed of four torn lines that begin with the words ââ¬ÅTo Ishmaelââ¬Â. Investigations led to a Montana resident, to whose mother the papyrus was given in 1965, and generously bestowed it to the Israel Antiquities Authority.
