When the plant was first cast in 1844, the town of Tangerhütte was still called Vaethen. It was not until 1928 that Vaethen was renamed “Tangerhütte“ after the hut that was situated on the Tangier River. Today the site of the ironworks is a ruin, which can only be entered with a permit.
