Bavaria Kicks Off HPV Vaccine Week

July 18, 2022, Munich, Bavaria, Germany: KLAUS HOLETSCHEK with MARIANNE ROEBL-MATHIEU of the Vaccine Commision (StiKo, Impfkommission). The State of Bavaria kicks off their Vaccine Week (Impfwoche) with a tour designed to raise awareness of the HPV vaccine. The vaccine has been a worldwide success towards the eradication of cervical and penile cancers, as well as genital warts. Yearly, Germany sees 6,250 women and 1,600 men developing HPV-related cancers, with 4,600 alone being women who develop cervical cancer. The vaccination rate in Bavaria for 15-year old girls is 40.2% and 3.6% for boys with lack of education about the vaccine, stigmas regarding sexual activity, and highly restrictive and regressive regulations regarding age groups as playing roles in low vaccination rates.
