3D models support restoration and replication

12 May 2020, Brandenburg, Frankfurt (Oder): Thomas Bauer of the company TrigonArt Bauer Praus GbR from Berlin stands in the centre of the city late in the evening and observes how a strip light scanning system illuminates the bronze artwork of the artist Lutz Hähnel. The company TrigonArt has specialised in the non-contact measurement of art and cultural historical objects. In the past years in Frankfurt (Oder) there have been repeated thefts of bronze artworks in public spaces. To prevent these incidents, the city‘s cultural office developed various measures. The use of digital 3D models offers the possibility of reconstructing works of art after the theft. With the help of this innovative technique, detailed copies can be made, which can also serve as a basis for repairing or completing damaged works of art. The cultural office commissioned the creation of initially 14 3D models using a non-contact surveying system. Photo: Patrick Pleul/dpa-Zentralbild/ZB、クレジット:ZB/DPA/共同通信イメージズ
