    Patent Models Displayed in Delaware

December 10, 2021 - Wilmington, Delaware, USA - A patent model for improvement in invalid-bedsteads, submitted to the U.S. Patent Office in 1875 by Thomas Watson and Robert Kelso of Philadelphia, is one of thousands of patent models housed at the Hagley Museum and Library. From 1790-1880, the U.S. Patent Office required scale models as well as written descriptions and drawings for inventors seeking patents. Fires at the Patent Office in 1836 and 1877 destroyed or damaged more than 100,000 of these models. But Hagley, thanks to a donation of collected models from Alan and Ann Rothschild, has preserved some 5,000 of these unique artifacts from America‘s long history of ingenuity, enterprise and invention. www.hagley.org(Credit Image: © Brian Cahn/ZUMA Press Wire)、クレジット:©Brian Cahn/ZUMA Press Wire/共同通信イメージズ
