Desert Archaeological Finds Uncovered In Israel

March 16, 2021, Jerusalem, Israel: Archaeologists display a huge intact basket with a lid, dating to the pre pottery Neolithic period, approximately 10,500 years ago, with a capacity of 90 -100 liters, apparently used for storage. The basket, probably the oldest in the world found completely intact, woven from plant material in an unusual weaving technique, was left behind by the Jewish rebels who fled to the caves of the Judean Desert at the end of the Bar Kokhba Revolt (132 - 136 CE). The Israel Antiquities Authority uncovered finds at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, excavated in the Judean Desert in a challenging operation which employed drones, rappelling techniques and mountain climbing equipment over the past four years. Finds include dozens of fragments of a biblical scroll from the Bar Kokhba period, arrowheads, rare coins, a 6,000 year old skeleton of a child and the oldest complete basket in the world, cultural assets of the historical heritage of the Jewish people. Environmental activists prepare vegan meal in their occupational camp in Turnicki forest on July 28, 2021 near Arlamow, Carpathian mountains, south-eastern Poland. The Wild Carpathian Initiative continues its occupational protest against deforestation of the Turnicki area of Carpathian mountains. The group have been blocking entrances to strategic paths of cutting crews since the end of April when the National Forest resumed large-scale forest cuts under the Forest Management Plan. Activists argue that this area should not operate under the Plan but rather become a National Park. The activists base their argument on the age of the forest (some trees are 300 years old) and the biodiversity only possible to maintain in a naturally managed environment. The area is a home to wildlife species, such as bear, wolf, boar or deer as well as rare plants. (Photo by Dominika Zarzycka/NurPhoto)=クレジット:Dominika Zarzycka/NurPhoto/共同通信イメージズ
