Blue hour in the Hanseatic town of Gardelegen

27 January 2021, Saxony-Anhalt, Gardelegen: Winter bare trees tower around the Nikolai Church in the twilight of the night that has settled over the Hanseatic city. The church was built around 1200 as a Romanesque brick building and was first mentioned in a document as a parish church in 1306. In the following centuries, the Romanesque building was extended in the Gothic style. On 15 March 1945 the church was destroyed in a bombing raid. More attic figures decorate the roof of the Landtag

24 November 2020, Brandenburg, Potsdam: The attic figure Andromeda hangs on a crane hook above the roof of the Brandenburg parliament. Behind it the dome of the Nikolai church can be seen. In the morning the sculpture of Andromeda was placed above the flag staircase on the west facade of the parliament building. Around noon the sandstone sculpture of Perseus is planned to be placed next to it. Both sculptures were made as sculptural reconstructions. It is planned to install eight more attic figures on the Landtag, including a restored original sculpture. This was made possible by a large donation received by the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation (SPSG) in 2017. Since 2016, five attic sculptures of formerly 76 figures, which had formerly decorated the city palace, have been installed on the parliament building. The church was built around 1200 as a Romanesque brick building and was first documented as a parish church in 1306. In the following centuries the Romanesque building was extended in Gothic style. On 15 March 1945 the church was destroyed in a bombing raid. At that time it was architecturally considered a three-nave, four-bay brick hall church with cross-ribbed vaulting. The Gardelegen ramparts were built in the 16th century to protect the city and are part of the network “Gartentr舫me - historische Parks in Sachsen-Anhalt“ which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
