Mayflies in this stage are a favourite food of many fish, and many fishing flies are modeled to resemble them. The adult mayflies are short-lived, from a few minutes to a few days depending on the species. About 2,500 species of mayflies are known worldwide, including about 630 species in North America. Historic England Aerial Photography Explorer Offers Window Into UK‘s Past

February 7, 2018, United Kingdom: Revealed from the air are plough-levelled remains of ancient burial sites dating from the Neolithic (long barrow) and Bronze Age (round barrows) near Broughton, Hampshire. These are some of the oldest monument types known in England. The long barrow was used for communal burial 4500-5000 years ago and the round barrows were likely constructed from about a thousand or more years later. The long white chalk mound with two flanking ditches with deeper, dark soil are typical of a Neolithic long barrow and show that much survives despite it being ploughed. Investigations in the 19th century found two skeletons and a later cremation. The two circular areas of dark soil are ring-ditches that may once have surrounded mounds or areas used for burial in the late Neolithic or Bronze Age. All three monuments are nationally protected as scheduled monuments. To the right, the long dark line is a ditch that extends into an adjacent field and is probably an Iron Age boundary.
