    50 Years Later: Nick Ut and Kim Phuc Together In Vietnam

    October 28, 2022, Thanh Tru, Vietnam: NICK UT and KIM PHUC in the village of Thanh Tru on October 27, 2022. This is the first time they have been in Vietnam together since the end of the Vietnam War. Kim was nine years old in the photo they are holding. Her back is permanently scared for the napalm that burned the clothes off her body. The singular image, that shocked the world, officially titled “The Terror of War,“ but colloquially known as ‘Napalm Girl,‘ transformed both their lives and forged what would become a lifelong bond between photographer and subject. Nick Ut, also Vietnamese, took the Pulitzer Prize-winning image in 1972 and was an AP photographer working the Vietnam war for years. This is the first time they have been in Vietnam together since the end of the Vietnam War. Kim was nine years old in the photo they are holding. Her back is permanently scared for the napalm that burned the clothes off her body. The singular image, that shocked the world, officially titled “The Terror of War,“ but colloquially known as ‘Napalm Girl,‘ transformed both their lives and forged what would become a lifelong bond between photographer and subject. Nick Ut, also Vietnamese, took the Pulitzer Prize-winning image in 1972 and was an AP photographer working the Vietnam war for years.
