2020年01月17日1979 stolen paintings come back to Gotha17 January 2020, Berlin: Knut Kreuch, Lord Mayor of Gotha and deputy chairman of the Foundation Schloss Friedenstein Gotha, speaks at a press conference about the return of five stolen paintings to the Foundation Schloss Friedenstein Gotha. On the night of 14 December 1979 five important paintings were stolen from the collections of Friedenstein Castle in Gotha. In July 2018, anonymous people approached the Foundation through a lawyer to offer the five paintings for sale. After long negotiations, the authenticity of the paintings was verified from September 2019 onwards by the Rathgen Research Laboratory of the National Museums in Berlin with the participation of the Berlin State Office of Criminal Investigation. Before 1945, the statuette had been transferred to the Collection of Classical Antiquities of the National Museums in Berlin, where it had been kept for a long time as an external property. 2019 it was finally clarified that she came from Kassel.
