2021年12月08日「ウーブン・シティ」の開発を加速するトヨタ自動車トヨタ自動車傘下のウーブン・プラネット・ホールディングス（東京都中央区）は、次世代技術の実証都市「ウーブン・シティ」の開発現場をメディアに初公開した。現実の環境を仮想空間上に再現する「デジタルツイン」技術などを使い、短期で試作と改良を繰り返す「アジャイル開発」を実施。開発速度や精度を高め、モビリティーや物流などで新たなサービス創出につなげる。オフィスに設置された物流センターの実物大の試作ライン。人手で荷物を仕分けて配送ロボットで各戸まで届ける一連の作業を実証でき、その実データは仮想空間上に反映されてより効率的な配送ルートや作業手順などをシミュレーション、改善できる。物流サービスを手がける政田盛拓氏は「デジタルツインとトヨタ生産方式（ＴＰＳ）の融合を図っている」と説明する。ウーブン・シティでは開発にデジタルツインをフル活用している。例えば仮想空間上にビルや道、公園など実際の都市を再現して、建物の配置やモビリティーサービスなどを検証。ユーザーエクスペリエンス技術を担当するハウス友紀氏は「ここに建物があるとこの時間に影ができる、といった細部までこだわっている」と胸を張る。ウーブン・シティは静岡県裾野市の車両工場跡地で、２０２４―２５年の開所を目指し２月に着工した。都市ＯＳ（基本ソフト）を開発するマイケル・パドン氏は「常に改善を続けて世界に存在しなかった街を実現したい」と展望を示した。ウーブン・プラネットＨＤでは、物流センターの試作ラインとデジタルツインを融合して開発や改善を加速している。＝２０２１（令和３）年１２月８日、撮影場所不明、クレジット：日刊工業新聞／共同通信イメージズ
