2017年08月27日INDIA-DAILYDevotees walk to the steps leading to the ocean at the Ramanathaswamy Temple (Rameswaram Temple) located on Rameswaram Island in Tamil Nadu, India. The temple is dedicated to the god Shiva and considered a holy pilgrimage site for Shaivites, Vaishnavites and Smarthas. The presiding deity, the Lingam of Ramanathaswamy (Shiva), was established and worshiped by Rama before crossing his bridge to Lanka. Rameshwaram is believed to be the place from where Lord Rama started his journey to rescue his wife Sita from the demon king Ravana who was holding her captive on the island of Lanka.
