    TROPOS lidar measurements support ESA satellite Aeolus

    22 August 2018, Germany, Leipzig: At the Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research (TROPOS) employees observe a laser beam that measures aerosols in the atmosphere at altitudes of up to 15 kilometres. With the ESA satellite “Aeolus“, which has just been launched, these data and measurements are to be carried out over the next few years using mobile measuring stations in Chile and continuous comparative measurements when the sites are flown over. With the various data, the medium-term weather forecast - i.e. the forecast of up to 15 days in advance - is to be considerably improved.
