-Turquoise mosaic mask of TezcatlipocaTurquoise mosaic mask of Tezcatlipoca, Mixtec-Aztec, AD 1400-1521. A human skull forms the base for this mask of Tezcatlipoca. ‘Smoking Mirror‘, one of four powerful creator gods in the Aztec pantheon. The Aztec believed that the defeat of Quetzalcoatl by Tezcatlipoca marked the beginning of the current era of creation. The emblem of Tezcatlipoca, an obsidian mirror, symbolises his control over the hidden forces of creation and destruction. The mask is decorated with a mosaic of turquoise, lignite and shell; the eyes have been made from polished iron pyrites. The skull was probably tied around the waist by the leather straps as indicated in the Codex image.、クレジット:World History Archive/ニューズコム/共同通信イメージズ ※エディトリアル使用のみ。広告、プロモーション、商業目的での利用に関してはお問合せください。

1979年01月02日DDR - brown coal miningFrost damage to a bucket wheel excavator in the lignite opencast Welzow-Sud in the former district of Cottbus (Brandenburg) on 02.01.1979. The time around the turn of the year 1978/1979 went down in the history of the GDR as “disaster winter“. Within a few hours, temperatures dropped from mild five to minus 20 degrees, with heavy snowfall disrupting traffic and large parts of the economy. The frost stopped the conveyor belts and let the coal freeze in the wagons. Photo: Erich Schutt / dpa central image / ZB - NO PICTURE USE - | usage worldwide、クレジット:DPA/共同通信イメージズ

These days, the Hodonin power plant is finishing the last tasks set out in the programme of preparation for winter operation. The electricity supply will be provided from the new TG 4 turbine generator, the installation of which was completed on schedule. This turbine allows the lignite used to be recovered more efficiently. With a sufficient supply of fuel, of which they have almost 200 000 tonnes in landfill, they are well placed to ensure the production of electricity and heat even in periods of hard frost.
