    Thomas Percy

    ★Thomas Percy, 7th Earl of Northumberland KG (1528 - 22 August 1572) led the Rising of the North and was executed for treason. He was later Beatified by the Catholic Church. On Elizabeth‘s accession the earl, whose loyalty to the Catholic Church was known, was kept in the North while the anti-Catholic measures of Elizabeth‘s first Parliament were passed. Elizabeth continued to show him favour, and in 1563 gave him the Order of the Garter. He had then resigned the wardenship and was living in the South. But the systematic persecution of the Catholics rendered their position most difficult, and in the autumn of 1569 the Catholic gentry in the North, stirred up by rumours of the approaching excommunication of Elizabeth, were planning to liberate Mary, Queen of Scots, and obtain liberty of worship.     The body of nurse Edith Cavell is returned to Britain in 1919, after the first world War and a state funeral was held at Westminster Abbey. On 19 May 1919, her body was reburied at the east side of Norwich Cathedral. Edith Louisa Cavell (1865 12 October 1915) was a British nurse. She is celebrated for saving the lives of soldiers from both sides without distinction and in helping some 200 Allied soldiers escape from German-occupied Belgium during World War I, for which she was arrested. She was subsequently court-martialled, found guilty of treason and sentenced to death. Despite international pressure for mercy, she was shot by a German firing squad.     1946(昭和21)年10月25日、米国への反逆罪で巣鴨拘置所に拘留中だった日系2世アイバ・郁子・戸栗・ダキノさんが証拠不十分で釈放された。ラジオで米兵の戦意を喪失させる呼び掛けを行った「東京ローズ」の一人とされた。帰米すると逮捕され禁固10年、罰金1万ドルの有罪となったが、模範囚で約6年後に釈放。
