「AFP」Thousands of revellers ring in the New Year in Taipei

The Taipei 101 Tower is lit up with fireworks as thousands of revellers gather in the Taiwanese capital to ring in the New Year. Taiwan has managed to weather the coronavirus pandemic, reporting no local infections for 253 straight days from early April, until recently, when a woman tested positive after coming into contact with a foreign pilot. “Although we have seen (the fireworks) many times, this time is special because unlike many other countries, we can still come here freely,“ says a resident at the celebrations.
