    Valuable book inventories are cleaned

14 September 2020, Saxony, Leipzig: In the baroque backdrop library of the Francke Foundations in Halle/Saale, Tina Oley (r) of the specialist company Preservation Academy Leipzig cleans a 9.5 kilogram Lüneburg Bible (1665) from the valuable book holdings with the support of graduate librarian Anke Mies. The valuable books are cleaned of dust, micro-organisms and pests using special vacuum cleaners and microfibre cloths. Over the next few weeks, around 64,000 books will be removed individually from the shelves in Germany‘s oldest secular library building and returned to their original location after dry cleaning of the book spines, cut edges and shelves. The almost 300-year-old library with its shelves placed in the room like a theatre backdrop is visited by researchers, scientists and guests from all over the world. They also argue that the pass isn‘t demanded to access university library or specialized libraries. Librarians want access to public librairies to become again free for all and without conditions.
