Paul Cézanne: The Allée of Chestnut Trees at the Jas de Bouffan (L‘allée des marronniers au Jas de Bouffan)

Paul Cézanne: The Allée of Chestnut Trees at the Jas de Bouffan (L‘allée des marronniers au Jas de Bouffan) , Paul Cézanne, c. 1888, Oil on canvas, For much of the 1880s and 1890s, Cézanne lived and worked at the Jas du Bouffan, his father‘s estate on the outskirts of Aix-en-Provence. Often he painted scenes from around the property, which included a large 18th-century house and formal gardens. Here he focuses on an alley formed by two rows of chestnut trees, translating the light filtering through the leaves into a grid-like pattern of geometric shapes. Green foliage is suggested by deliberate parallel marks., Overall: 31 7/8 x 25 3/8 in. (81 x 64.5 cm).、クレジット:Album/quintlox/共同通信イメージズ ※エディトリアル使用のみ。表紙、広告、プロモーション、商業目的での利用はお問合せください。クレジットは必ず表記してください。

American, Pennsylvania German: Chest over Drawers, John Bieber, American, Pennsylvania German, 1789, Painted pine,

American, Pennsylvania German: Chest over Drawers, John Bieber, American, Pennsylvania German, 1789, Painted pine, brass, Decorated chests like this one were made by German-speaking settlers in the rural counties of Pennsylvania. They were used as storage for household goods or personal belongings; they could also serve as seating, which might explain the abraded paint on the top of this one. The designs decorating the surface (hearts, tulips, stars, geometric shapes) were imported from Europe and can be found in other kinds of Pennsylvania German folk art, including fraktur (decorated works on paper). This chest was created for Michael Finck, whose name is written in the arch above the central star, by the artist John Bieber in the year 1789., Overall: 30 3/16 x 52 1/2 x 23 1/2 in. (76.7 x 133.4 x 59.7 cm).、クレジット:Album/quintlox/共同通信イメージズ ※エディトリアル使用のみ。表紙、広告、プロモーション、商業目的での利用はお問合せください。クレジットは必ず表記してください。

(81 x 64.5 cm).、クレジット:Universal Images Group/共同通信イメージズ ※エディトリアル使用のみ。広告、プロモーション、商業目的での利用に関してはお問合せください。

Mont Sainte-Victoire and the Viaduct of the Arc River Valley.

Mont Sainte-Victoire and the Viaduct of the Arc River Valley. Artist: Paul Cézanne (French, Aix-en-Provence 1839-1906 Aix-en-Provence). Dimensions: 25 3/4 x 32 1/8 in. (65.4 x 81.6 cm). Date: 1882-85.The distinctive silhouette of Mont Saint-Victoire rises above the Arc River valley near the town of Aix. To paint this scene, Cézanne stood close to Montbriand, his sister‘s property, at the top of the hill just behind her house; the wall of the neighboring farmhouse is barely visible. Cézanne sought to reveal the inner geometry of nature, “to make of Impressionism something solid and durable, like the art of museums.“ Indeed the railroad viaduct that cuts throught this pastoral scene is evocative of a Roman aqueduct, recalling paintings by Nicolas Poussin.
