    ルドウィック・アショフ Ludwig Aschoff, German pathologist

Karl Albert Ludwig Aschoff (1866-1942), German pathologist and physician. Aschoff spent most of his career at the University of Freiburg, working there from 1906. He studied the pathology of the heart, discovering structures (Aschoff bodies) that develop in the myocardium (heart muscle) during rheumatic fever. Aschoff and one of his students from Japan (Sunao Tawara) discovered the heart‘s atrioventricular node. Aschoff‘s research included trips to England, Japan, Canada and the USA, with a lasting influence on pathology studies in Japan. Aschoff also studied racial differences, with his work continued by the Nazis. Photographed circa 1911.、クレジット:Science Photo Library/共同通信イメージズ
