東京名所:靖国神社 Japan: The Yasukuni Shrine, Tokyo, 1896.

The Yasukuni Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan. It is dedicated to the soldiers and others who died fighting on behalf of the Emperor of Japan. As of 2010, its Symbolic Registry of Divinities lists the names of over 2,466,000 enshrined men and women whose lives were dedicated to the service of Imperial Japan, particularly to those killed in wartime. It also houses one of the few Japanese war museums dedicated to World War II. There are also commemorative statues to mothers and animals who sacrificed in the war.Yasukuni is a shrine to house the actual souls of the dead as kami, or ‘spirits/souls‘ as loosely defined in English. It is believed that all negative or evil acts committed are absolved when enshrinement occurs. This activity is strictly a religious matter since the separation of State Shinto and the Japanese government in 1945...、クレジット:Pictures From History/Universal Images Group/共同通信イメージズ

Card 4 of 5 - ‘Intervention‘. A cartoon interpretation of the Russo-Japanese war, acted out by the principal ruling individuals from the International Community. The Russo-Japanese War was a conflict that grew out of the rival imperialist ambitions of the Russian Empire and the Empire of Japan over Manchuria and Korea. Japan inflicted a series of stunning defeats on the Russian Navy, principally at Tsushima in May 1905. In this fourth card, Tsar Nicholas II and the Japanese Emperor Meiji are forcibly pulled apart by the rulers of the International community supporting each of their causes. For the Russians this includes the French, for the Japanese, the British and Italians. 梅蘭芳(ばいらんほう) China: Mei Lanfang, famous Beijing (Peking) Opera artist (1894-1961).

Mei was born in Taizhou, Jiangsu(1894), into a family of Beijing Opera and Kunqu performers. He made his stage debut at the Guanghe Theatre in 1904 when he was 10 years old.In his 50-year stage career, he maintained strong continuity while always working on new techniques. His most famous roles were those of female characters; skillful portrayal of women won him international acclaim. He also played an important part in continuing the performance tradition of Kunqu. In July 1937, the Marco Polo Bridge Incident occurred. The Imperial Japanese Army soon occupied Beijing. The commander of the Japanese Army ordered Mei to perform for them and appointed Mei to a high ranking official position. But Mei refused to sing throughout the duration of the war and endured an impoverished lifestyle until the war ended in 1945...=撮影年月日不明、クレジット:CPA Media/Universal Images Group/共同通信イメージズ
