The original background map was taken from the 2MASS infrared sky survey, with stars from the Henry Draper catalogue superposed. Black holes are thought to be the densest state of matter, and there is indirect evidence for their presence in stellar binary systems and the centres of globular clusters, galaxies, and quasars.、クレジット:World History Archive/ニューズコム/共同通信イメージズ ※エディトリアル使用のみ。広告、プロモーション、商業目的での利用に関してはお問合せください。

2012年12月13日Giant Stellar NurseryDec. 13, 2012 - Stars are sometimes born in the midst of chaos. About 3 million years ago in the nearby galaxy M33, a large cloud of gas spawned dense internal knots which gravitationally collapsed to form stars. NGC 604 was so large, however, it could form enough stars to make a globular cluster. Many young stars from this cloud are visible in this image from the Hubble Space Telescope, along with what is left of the initial gas cloud. Some stars were so massive they have already evolved and exploded in a supernova. The brightest stars that are left emit light so energetic that they create one of the largest clouds of ionized hydrogen gas known, comparable to the Tarantula Nebula in our Milky Way‘s close neighbor, the Large Magellanic Cloud. The field is similar to that of binoculars. ..This is a stack of 5 x 2-minute exposures with the Canon 5D MkII at ISO 800 and 200mm Canon L-Series lens at f/2.8. An additional exposure taken through the Kenko Softon A filter is layered in to add the star glows to bring out their colours. Taken with the Fornax Lightrack tracker as part of testing. 2019年03月25日Travel News - March 25, 2019March 25, 2019, Wheatland County: Messier 44, the Beehive or Praesepe star cluster in Cancer, through the 105mm Astro-Physics Traveler apo refractor with the Hotech field flattener for f/5.8 and in a stack of 11 x 4-minute exposures at ISO 800 with the Canon 6D MkII camera. Taken on a slightly hazy night on March 25, 2019, thus the natural star glows – the cluster is not surrounded by nebulosity! ..However, the sky is clear enough that some of the very faint IC, UGC, and PGC galaxies in the field show up. Most are 15th to 17th magnitude. ..I’ve punched up the star colours with a star mask. Stars tightened with StarShrink filter. Diffraction spikes added in post with Astronomy Tools actions. 2019年04月08日Travel News - April 8, 2019April 8, 2019, Wheatland County: The 4-day-old waxing crescent Moon on April 8, 2019 with it below Mars (at top) and the star clusters, the Hyades (at left, with reddish Aldebaran) and Pleiades (at right) in Taurus, and set into the deep blue evening twilight...This is with the 135mm Canon telephoto at f/2.8 with the Canon 6D at ISO 400, in a blend of 7 exposures from 1/4 second to 8 seconds, blended with luminosity masks from ADP Pro3 extension panel in Photoshop, to prevent the Moon from being too overexposed while retaining the stars and blue sky. The camera was tracking the sky. I added an Orton effect glow to the stars for artistic effect, with a star mask to limit the glows to just the stars. I really needed a 105mm lens for this, as the framing is pretty tight! Oh, well! (Credit Image: © Alan Dyer/VW Pics via ZUMA Wire)、クレジット:©Alan Dyer/VW Pics via ZUMA Wire/共同通信イメージズ

The nebulas M16 and M17 are at the bottom of the field. The bright star cluster M11, the Wild Duck Cluster, is at the top on the northern edge of the Scutum Starcloud. Light from the gibbous Moon illuminated the sky, so no long exposure would reveal much detail in and around the Pleiades. Venus passes close to the Pleiades only every 8 years. It was closer the night before, but alas, there were clouds! Some light cloud this night added the glow. ..This is a stack of multiple exposures of varying lengths: 2 minutes, 30 seconds, 10 seconds and 2 seconds, blended with masks to prevent Venus from being too blown out while still recording the stars. 2022年04月24日Travel News - April 24, 2022April 24, 2022, Alberta, Canada: This is a stack of images demonstrating the number of satellites passing through the field of a wide-field telescope over a little more an hour. The field frames the Coma Berenices star cluster. This is from my home at 51ð North, a latitude more prone to seeing satellites lit by the Sun well into the evening, if not all night closer to summer solstice. Most trails are north-south so they are likely NOT Starlink satellites but polar orbiting satellites. Interesting that the trails have different colours, likely from their solar panels or other structures reflecting blue and gold tints. ..This is a stack of 12 x 6-minute exposures started in deep twilight (thus the blue sky background) on April 24, 2022, stacked (with Maximum stack mode) to add the exposures together so the trails accumulate, rather than a median stack mode to eliminate the trails as would normally be done. ..This was with the Sharpstar 61 EDPH II refractor at f/4.5 and Canon EOS Ra at ISO 800 for a field o...

2022年06月04日Andromeda Over The Sahara Desert★Handout photo - What is the oldest thing you can see? At 2.5 million light years distant, the answer for the unaided eye is the Andromeda galaxy, because its photons are 2.5 million years old when they reach you. Most other apparent denizens of the night sky -- stars, clusters, and nebulae -- appear as they were only a few hundred to a few thousand years ago, as they lie well within our own Milky Way Galaxy. Given its distance, light from Andromeda is likely also the farthest object that you can see. Also known as M31, the Andromeda Galaxy dominates the center of the featured zoomed image, taken from the Sahara Desert in Morocco last month. The featured image is a combination of three background and one foreground exposure -- all taken with the same camera and from the same location and on the same calendar day -- with the foreground image taken during the evening blue hour. 2022年09月06日James Webb Space Telescope Captures Tarantula NebulaSeptember 6, 2022 - Space - Stellar nursery 30 Doradus gets its nickname of the Tarantula Nebula from its long, dusty filaments. Located in the Large Magellanic Cloud galaxy, it‘s the largest and brightest star-forming region near our own galaxy, plus home to the hottest, most massive stars known. The center of this image, taken by Webb‘s Near-Infrared Camera instrument (NIRCam), has been hollowed out by the radiation from young, massive stars (seen in sparkling pale blue). Only the densest surrounding areas of the nebula resist erosion, forming the pillars that appear to point back towards the cluster of stars in the center. The pillars are home to still-forming stars, which will eventually leave their dusty cocoons and help shape the nebula. 2022年09月08日Hubble Finds Spiraling Stars, Window Into Early UniverseSeptember 8, 2022 - Space - Illustration: The massive star cluster NGC 346, located in the Small Magellanic Cloud, has long intrigued astronomers with its unusual shape. Now researchers using two separate methods have determined that this shape is partly due to stars and gas spiraling into the center of this cluster in a river like motion. The red spiral superimposed on NGC 346 traces the movement of stars and gas toward the center. Scientists say this spiraling motion is the most efficient way to feed star formation from the outside toward the center of the cluster. 2022年09月11日New James Webb Space Telescope Image Shows Orion NebulaSeptember 11, 2022, United States: This image shows the inner region of the Orion Nebula as seen by the James Webb Space Telescopeââ¬â¢s NIRCam instrument..It is a composite image from several filters that represents emission from ionized gas, hydrocarbons, molecular gas, dust and scattered starlight. Most prominent is the Orion Bar, a wall of dense gas and dust that runs from the top left to the bottom right in this image, and that contains the bright star ø2 Orionis A. The scene is illuminated by a group of hot, young massive stars (known as the Trapezium Cluster) which is located just off the top right of the image. The strong and harsh ultraviolet radiation of the Trapezium cluster creates a hot, ionized environment in the upper right, and slowly erodes the Orion Bar away. Molecules and dust can survive longer in the shielded environment offered by the dense Bar, but the surge of stellar energy sculpts a region that displays an incredible richness of filaments, globules, young stars with disks and c...

2022年09月12日Globular Cluster Terzan 4September 12, 2022 - Space - A glittering multitude of stars in the globular cluster Terzan 4 fill this image from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. Globular clusters are collections of stars bound together by their mutual gravitational attraction, and can contain millions of individual stars. As this image shows, the heart of a globular cluster such as Terzan 4 is a densely packed, crowded field of stars which makes for spectacular images! The launch of Hubble in 1990 revolutionised the study of globular clusters. The individual stars in these dense crowds are almost impossible to distinguish from one another with ground-based telescopes, but can be picked apart using space telescopes. Astronomers have taken advantage of Hubble crystal-clear vision to study the stars making up globular clusters, as well as how these systems change over time. This particular observation comes from astronomers using Hubble to explore Terzan 4 and other globular clusters to understand the shape, density, age, and structur...

2022年09月20日Travel News - September 20, 2022September 20, 2022, Alberta, Canada: The main complex of nebulosity in Cygnus, taken with a telephoto lens taking in a wide field of 15ð by 10ð. ..At left is the brightest nebula in the region, NGC 7000, or the North America Nebula, left of the bright blue star Deneb. Between Deneb and the North America is the Pelican Nebula, IC 5067. At bottom right is the complex around Gamma Cygni catalogued as IC 1318. But there are lots of other arcs and patches of nebulosity here, such as Sharpless 2-119 at far left and Sharpless 2-115 at top. The small Crescent Nebula, NGC 6888, is just in frame at lower right. The star cluster NGC 6866 is at the right edge of the frame. The dark nebula known as the Northern Coalsack is at centre below Deneb. The yellowish region above and to the left of IC 1318 seems to be the little star clusters Bica 1 and 2. The colourful triple star Omicon Cygni is at upper right. ..This is a blend of filtered and unfiltered stacks: 10 x 2 minutes at ISO 800 with no filter, and 6 x 2 minute...

2022年09月22日Travel News - September 22, 2022September 22, 2022, Alberta, Canada: This is the complex of nebulosity that has become known as the Cosmic Question Mark, a good name as its official designations are confusing. ..The top arc is usually labelled as NGC 7822, and the middle region as Cederblad (Ced) 214. However, some charts and references label Ced214 as NGC 7822, as it is brighter and might have been the object William Herschel saw when amassing observations in the 18th century for his General Catalogue, in which he describes NGC 7822 as ‘‘eeF! and eeL!,‘‘ meaning really really faint and large! The little ‘‘dot‘‘ of the question mark is the faint and photographic-only nebula Sharpless 2-170, surrounding a little cluster Stock 18 ...The field is embedded in dust, indicated by the brownish-yellow tint of the background sky at centre, contrasting with the dust-free bluish starfields at top and bottom. Even the star clusters are yellowed, notably King 11 at top right and NGC 7762 embedded in the nebula at right above the bright star. The loos...

2022年09月26日Hubble Observes Sparkling Open Star ClusterSeptember 26, 2022, United States: A twinkling group of stars dominates the center of this image. NGC 2002 is an open star cluster that resides roughly 160,000 light-years away from Earth in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy of our Milky Way containing numerous star-forming regions. NGC 2002 is about 30 light-years in diameter and is a relatively young cluster at 18 million years old...The Large and Small Magellanic Clouds (LMC, SMC) are rich in young star clusters, making them ideal laboratories for studying stellar formation and evolution. In fact, the LMC and SMC are the only systems that contain star clusters at all stages of evolution while also being near enough to Earth to be fully resolved, meaning that one can make out and study individual stars...NGC 2002 is more spherical than a typical open cluster, which is a type of star cluster that has low star density and an irregular shape due to the weak mutual gravitational attraction of its constituent stars. Individual stars in an open cl...

2022年09月27日Travel News - September 27, 2022September 27, 2022, Alberta, Canada: The colourful region in and around the Coathanger asterism in Vulpecula the Fox. The grouping is not a star cluster per se, though it is catalogued as one, Collinder 399. It is also known as Brocchi‘s Cluster. A true star cluster, NGC 6802, is located at the east (left) end of the Coathanger, as the small clump of stars. The area is also rich in faint nebulosity, notably: the Sharpless 2-83 reflection nebula complex above the Coathanger, and the small, round Sharpless 2-82 emission and reflection nebula below the Coathanger. The large area of red emission nebula at bottom right is not catalogued or labelled in any of the star atlases I have, including the Millenium Star Atlas and Uranometria. However, the small round red ‘‘nebula‘‘ on the bottom edge of the large nebula is actually a highly reddened globular cluster, Palomar 10. This area of the Milky Way is rich in dark nebulas and absorbing dust, yellowing the fields. ..This is a stack of 10 x 5-minute exposures throu...
