February 9, 2015 - Space - Scores of baby stars shrouded by dust are revealed in this infrared image of the star-forming region NGC 2174, as seen by NASA‘s Spitzer Space Telescope. In this image first published in 2015, infrared wavelengths have been assigned visible colors we see with our eyes. Light with a wavelength of 3.5 microns is shown in blue, 8.0 microns is green, and 24 microns in red. The greens show the organic molecules in the dust clouds, illuminated by starlight. Reds are caused by the thermal radiation emitted from the very hottest areas of dust. Star Formation In The Constellation of Gemini

March 8, 2021 - Space - Hubble Space Telescope Picture of the Week features AFGL 5180, a beautiful stellar nursery located in the constellation of Gemini (The Twins). At the centre of the image, a massive star is forming and blasting cavities through the clouds with a pair of powerful jets, extending to the top right and bottom left of the image. Light from this star is mostly escaping and reaching us by illuminating these cavities, like a lighthouse piercing through the storm clouds. Stars are born in dusty environments and although this dust makes for spectacular images, it can prevent astronomers from seeing stars embedded in it. Hubbles Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3) instrument is designed to capture detailed images in both visible and infrared light, meaning that the young stars hidden in vast star-forming regions like AFGL 5180 can be seen much more clearly. Like Monsters In The Sky

October 12, 2021 - Space - A violent and chaotic-looking mass of gas and dust is seen in this Hubble Space Telescope image of a nearby supernova remnant. Denoted N 63A, the object is the remains of a massive star that exploded, spewing its gaseous layers out into an already turbulent region. The supernova remnant is part of a star-forming region in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), an irregular galaxy 160,000 light-years from our own Milky Way. Supernova remnants have long been thought to set off episodes of star formation when their expanding shock encounters nearby gas. N 63A is still young, and its ruthless shocks are destroying the ambient gas clouds, rather than coercing them to collapse and form stars. Dwarf Starburst Galaxy Henize 2-10 Dwarf Starburst Galaxy Henize 2-10

A pullout of the central region dwarf starburst galaxy Henize 2-10 traces an outflow, or bridge of hot gas 230 light-years long, connecting the galaxyâs massive black hole and a star-forming region. Hubble data on the velocity of the outflow from the black hole, as well as the age of the young stars, indicates a causal relationship between the two. A few million years ago, the outflow of hot gas slammed into the dense cloud of a stellar nursery and spread out, like water from a hose impacting a mound of dirt. Now clusters of young stars are aligned perpendicular to the outflow, revealing the path of its spread. Photo by NASA, ESA, Z. Schutte, A. Reines, B. Tully, S. Conti, W. Vacca, A. July 18, 2022, Leuven, Belgium: VIDEO AVAILABLE: CONTACT INFO@COVERMG.COM TO RECEIVE**This composite image shows the star-forming region 30 Doradus, also known as the Tarantula Nebula. The background image, taken in the infrared, is itself a composite: it was captured by the HAWK-I instrument on ESOââ¬â¢s Very Large Telescope (VLT) and the Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy (VISTA), shows bright stars and light, pinkish clouds of hot gas. The bright red-yellow streaks that have been superimposed on the image come from radio observations taken by the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), revealing regions of cold, dense gas which have the potential to collapse and form stars. The unique web-like structure of the gas clouds led astronomers to the nebulaââ¬â¢s spidery nickname.A team of international experts have found a stellar-mass black hole in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a neighbour galaxy to our own. .Moreover, they found that the star that gave rise to the black hole va...

    Star Forming Region NGC 604

April 21, 2024, Space: James Webb Space Telescope NIRCam (Near-Infrared Camera) image of star-forming region NGC 604 shows how stellar winds from bright, hot young stars carve out cavities in surrounding gas and dust. The bright orange streaks in this image signify the presence of carbon-based molecules known as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, or PAHs. As you travel further from the immediate cavities of dust where the star is forming, the deeper red signifies molecular hydrogen. This cooler gas is a prime environment for star formation. Ionized hydrogen from ultraviolet radiation from appears as a white and blue ghostly glow. (Credit Image: © NASA, ESA, STScI/ZUMA Press Wire)、クレジット:©NASA, ESA, STScI/ZUMA Press Wire/共同通信イメージズ

James Webb Space Telescope Captures Tarantula Nebula

September 6, 2022 - Space - Stellar nursery 30 Doradus gets its nickname of the Tarantula Nebula from its long, dusty filaments. Located in the Large Magellanic Cloud galaxy, it‘s the largest and brightest star-forming region near our own galaxy, plus home to the hottest, most massive stars known. The center of this image, taken by Webb‘s Near-Infrared Camera instrument (NIRCam), has been hollowed out by the radiation from young, massive stars (seen in sparkling pale blue). Only the densest surrounding areas of the nebula resist erosion, forming the pillars that appear to point back towards the cluster of stars in the center. The pillars are home to still-forming stars, which will eventually leave their dusty cocoons and help shape the nebula. September 26, 2022, United States: A twinkling group of stars dominates the center of this image. NGC 2002 is an open star cluster that resides roughly 160,000 light-years away from Earth in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy of our Milky Way containing numerous star-forming regions. NGC 2002 is about 30 light-years in diameter and is a relatively young cluster at 18 million years old...The Large and Small Magellanic Clouds (LMC, SMC) are rich in young star clusters, making them ideal laboratories for studying stellar formation and evolution. In fact, the LMC and SMC are the only systems that contain star clusters at all stages of evolution while also being near enough to Earth to be fully resolved, meaning that one can make out and study individual stars...NGC 2002 is more spherical than a typical open cluster, which is a type of star cluster that has low star density and an irregular shape due to the weak mutual gravitational attraction of its constituent stars. Individual stars in an open cl...

James Webb Space Telescope Captures Merging Galaxies

November 29, 2022, United States: A merging galaxy pair cavort in this image captured by the NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope. This pair of galaxies, known to astronomers as II ZW 96, is roughly 500 million light-years from Earth and lies in the constellation Delphinus, close to the celestial equator. As well as the wild swirl of the merging galaxies, a menagerie of background galaxies are dotted throughout the image. The two galaxies are in the process of merging and as a result have a chaotic, disturbed shape. The bright cores of the two galaxies are connected by bright tendrils of star-forming regions, and the spiral arms of the lower galaxy have been twisted out of shape by the gravitational perturbation of the galaxy merger. It is these star-forming regions that made II ZW 96 such a tempting target for Webb; the galaxy pair is particularly bright at infrared wavelengths thanks to the presence of the star formation. NASAâs Webb Uncovers Star Formation In Clusterâs Dusty Ribbons

January 12, 2023: NGC 346, one of the most dynamic star-forming regions in nearby galaxies, is full of mystery. Now, though, it is less mysterious thanks to new findings from the NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope...NCG 346 is located in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), a dwarf galaxy close to our Milky Way. The SMC contains lower concentrations of elements heavier than hydrogen or helium, which astronomers call metals, than seen in the Milky Way. Since dust grains in space are composed mostly of metals, scientists expected that there would only be small amounts of dust, and that it would be hard to detect. But new data from Webb reveals just the opposite...Astronomers probed this region because the conditions and amount of metals within the SMC resemble those seen in galaxies billions of years ago, during an era in the Universe‘s history known as ‘cosmic noon,‘ when star formation was at its peak. Some 2 to 3 billion years after the Big Bang, galaxies were forming stars at a furious rate. The firewo...

Hubbleâs New View of the Tarantula Nebula

January 30, 2023: A snapshot of the Tarantula Nebula (also known as 30 Doradus) is the most recent Picture of the Week from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. The Tarantula Nebula is a large star-forming region of ionised hydrogen gas that lies 161 000 light years from Earth in the Large Magellanic Cloud, and its turbulent clouds of gas and dust can be seen swirling between the regionââ¬â¢s bright, newly-formed stars. The Tarantula Nebula is a familiar site for Hubble. It is the brightest star-forming region in our galactic neighbourhood and home to the hottest, most massive stars known. This makes it a perfect natural laboratory in which to test out theories of star formation and evolution, and a rich variety of Hubble images of this region have been released to the public in recent years. The NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope also recently delved into this region, revealing thousands of never-before-seen young stars. This new image combines data from two different observing proposals. The first ...

March 20, 2023, United States: This image shows: A thin spiral galaxy is seen edge-on in the lower right. Its bulge and arms are very bright, mixing reddish and bluish light. Patchy blue trails extend below it, resembling tentacles, made from star-forming regions. Six small, reddish elliptical galaxies are scattered around. A very large elliptical galaxy with two cores sits by the top of the frame...The galaxy JW100 features prominently in the image from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, with streams of star-forming gas dripping from the disc of the galaxy like streaks of fresh paint. These tendrils of bright gas are formed by a process called ram pressure stripping, and their resemblance to dangling tentacles has led astronomers to refer to JW100 as a ââ¬Ëjellyfishââ¬â¢ galaxy. It is located in the constellation Pegasus, over 800 million light-years away. Ram pressure stripping occurs when galaxies encounter the diffuse gas that pervades galaxy clusters. Webb Reveals Sombrero Galaxy‘s Hidden Details

Handout photo dated November 25, 2024 shows the view of the famous Sombrero Galaxy in mid-infrared light (top) and visible light (bottom). The James Webb Space Telescope’s MIRI (Mid-Infrared Instrument) reveals the smooth inner disk of the galaxy, while the Hubble Space Telescope’s visible-light image shows the large and extended glow of the central bulge of stars. NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope captures the Sombrero Galaxy (Messier 104) in stunning mid-infrared detail. This oblong galaxy, named for its resemblance to a wide-brimmed hat, reveals intricate clumps of dust along its outer ring, illuminated in shades of blue and white. Speckles of stars scatter its inner disk, while distant galaxies dot the black cosmic canvas in the background. The new image, taken with Webb‘s MIRI instrument, offers unprecedented insight into the galaxy’s structure and the faint traces of young star-forming regions. November 25, 2024. James Webb Space Telescope Captures Remarkable Image Of Lynds 483 Star-Forming Region

March 10, 2025: High-resolution near-infrared light captured by NASAââ¬â¢s James Webb Space Telescope has revealed extraordinary new details of Lynds 483 (L483), a star-forming region in the constellation Serpens. ..Two actively forming stars are responsible for the shimmering jets of gas and dust seen in orange, blue, and purple hues in this remarkable image...Over thousands of years, the central protostars have periodically ejected gas and dust, propelling it into space as fast-moving jets and slightly slower outflows. When newer ejections collide with older ones, the material can crumple and twist depending on the density of the colliding particles...、クレジット:©Cover Images/Cover Images via ZUMA Press/共同通信イメージズ ※United Kingdom Rights OUT
