  • The Hubble telescope captured a display of starlight
    2004年09月30日
The Hubble telescope captured a display of starlight

The Hubble telescope captured a display of starlight, glowing gas, and silhouetted dark clouds of interstellar dust in this 4-foot-by-8-foot image of the barred spiral galaxy NGC 1300. NGC 1300 is considered to be prototypical of barred spiral galaxies. Barred spirals differ from normal spiral galaxies in that the arms of the galaxy do not spiral all the way into the center, but are connected to the two ends of a straight bar of stars containing the nucleus at its center. The image was constructed from exposures taken in September 2004 by the Advanced Camera for Surveys onboard Hubble in four filters. Starlight and dust are seen in blue, visible, and infrared light. The galaxy lies roughly 69 million light-years away (21 megaparsecs) in the direction of the constellation Eridanus、クレジット:World History Archive/ニューズコム/共同通信イメージズ ※エディトリアル使用のみ。広告、プロモーション、商業目的での利用に関してはお問合せください。

    Webb Captures Spiral Galaxy

February 16, 2023 - Space - Scientists are getting their first look with NASAs James Webb Space Telescopes powerful resolution how the formation of young stars influences the evolution of nearby galaxies. NGC 1365, observed here by Webbâs Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) is one of a total of 19 galaxies targeted for study by the Physics at High Angular resolution in Nearby Galaxies (PHANGS) collaboration. In the MIRI observations of NGC 1365, clumps of dust and gas in the interstellar medium has absorbed the light from forming stars and emitted it back out in the infrared, lighting up an intricate network of cavernous bubbles and filamentary shells influenced by young stars releasing energy into the galaxys spiral arms. NGC 1365 is a double barred spiral galaxy that lies about 56 million light years away from Earth. Its one of the largest galaxies currently known to astronomers, spanning twice the length of the Milky Way across (Credit Image: © STScI/NASA/ZUMA Press Wire Service)、クレジット:©STScI/NASA/ZUMA Press...

NASAâs James Webb Space Telescope Reveals Intricate Networks of Gas and Dust in Nearby Galaxies

February 16, 2023, United States: New imagery from NASAââ¬â¢s James Webb Space Telescope is giving scientists their first look at high resolution into the fine structure of nearby galaxies and how thatââ¬â¢s impacted by the formation of young stars. NGC 1433 is a barred spiral galaxy with a particularly bright core surrounded by double star forming rings. For the first time, in Webbââ¬â¢s infrared images, scientists can see cavernous bubbles of gas where forming stars have released energy into their surrounding environment. In the image of NGC 1433, blue, green, and red were assigned to Webbââ¬â¢s MIRI data at 7.7, 10 and 11.3, and 21 microns (F770W, F1000W and F1130W, and F2100W, respectively)...Researchers using NASAââ¬â¢s James Webb Space Telescope are getting their first look at star formation, gas, and dust in nearby galaxies with unprecedented resolution at infrared wavelengths. The data has enabled an initial collection of 21 research papers which provide new insight into how some of the smalle...

Webb Deep Space Telescope Scans The Universe

June 2, 2023 - Space - A delicate tracery of dust and bright star clusters threads across this image from the NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope. In this image, from Webb‘s MIRI instrument, the dusty structure of the spiral galaxy and glowing bubbles of gas containing newly-formed star clusters are particularly prominent. These bright tendrils of gas belong to the barred spiral galaxy NGC 5068, located around 17 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Virgo. This portrait of NGC 5068 is part of a campaign to create an astronomical treasure trove, a repository of observations of star formation in nearby galaxies. Previous gems from this collection can be seen here and here. These observations are particularly valuable to astronomers for two reasons...、クレジット:©NASA/ESA/Webb/ZUMA Press Wire/共同通信イメージズ

The bright tendrils of gas and stars belong to the barred spiral galaxy NGC 5068, whose bright central bar is visible in the upper left of this image. Previous gems from this collection can be seen here and here. These observations are particularly valuable to astronomers for two reasons. The first is because star formation underpins so many fields in astronomy, from the physics of the tenuous plasma that lies between stars to the evolution of entire galaxies...、クレジット:©Cover Images/Cover Images via ZUMA Press/共同通信イメージズ ※United Kingdom Rights OUT

June 2, 2023, United States: A delicate tracery of dust and bright star clusters threads across this image from the NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope. This view from Webbââ¬â¢s NIRCam instrument is studded by the galaxyââ¬â¢s massive population of stars, most dense along its bright central bar, along with burning red clouds of gas illuminated by young stars within. These glittering stars belong to the barred spiral galaxy NGC 5068, located around 17 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Virgo.
