    Design for a Candlestick.

Design for a Candlestick. Artist: Giulio Romano (Italian, Rome 1499?-1546 Mantua). Dimensions: Sheet: 14 5/16 x 6 11/16 in. (36.3 x 17 cm). Date: ca. 1530-46.Giulio Romano started his artistic career in the workshop of Raphael (Italian, Urbino 1483-1520 Rome) in Rome where he learned to execute designs in the style of his master. After Raphael‘s death, he left Rome to become a court artist in his own right to the Gonzaga Family in Mantua. For over twenty years he led a team of artists, supplying designs for architecture, (fresco) paintings, tapestries, furniture and gold- and silversmith‘s work which show his own ingenuity and creative sensibility. Of the silver- and goldsmith‘s work, no executed pieces survive, but various designs have survived in drawings and (reproductive) prints. クレジット:Album/Metropolitan Museum of Art,NY/共同通信イメージズ ※エディトリアル使用のみ。表紙、広告、プロモーション、商業目的での利用はお問合せください。クレジットは必ず表記してください。

In 1565 led by Louis of Nassau and Henry of Brederode

In 1565 led by Louis of Nassau and Henry of Brederode, the League of Nobles advanced. Hendrik van Brederode became a convert to the Reformed faith and placed himself at the side of the prince of Orange and Count of Egmont in resisting the introduction of the Spanish Inquisition and Spanish despotism into the Netherlands. In 1566 he was one of the founders of the League of nobles who bound themselves to maintain the rights and liberties of the country by signing a document known as the Compromise of Nobles. On April 5 of that year Brederode accompanied to the palace a body of 300 Knights, for whom he acted as the spokesman, to present to the regent, Margaret of Parma, a petition setting forth their grievances.、クレジット:World History Archive/ニューズコム/共同通信イメージズ ※エディトリアル使用のみ。広告、プロモーション、商業目的での利用に関してはお問合せください。

Portrait of a Man, early 1650s, Oil on canvas, 43 1/2 x 34 in. (110.5 x 86.4 cm), Paintings, Frans Hals (Dutch, Antwerp 1582/83–1666 Haarlem), In this canvas of the early 1650s, the figure‘s pose follows a pattern Hals employed twenty years earlier, but here the arrangement is more frontal and contained. The resulting impression of reserve or authority is relieved by the relaxed expression, and perhaps by the French fashions of flounced sleeves and colorful ribbons at the waist.、クレジット:Sepia Times/Universal Images Group/共同通信イメージズ ※エディトリアル使用のみ。広告、プロモーション、商業目的での利用に関してはお問合せください。

    N. Tom o‘ logical studies. The great tumble bug of Missouri, bent-on rollin his ball. A caricature of Missouri senator Thomas Hart Benton, as an insect rolling a large ball ‘Expunging Resolution‘ uphill toward the Capitol. The print employs Benton‘s own metaphor of rolling a ball for his uphill campaign to have a March 1834 Senate censure of then-President Andrew Jackson stricken from the Senate journal. The censure had condemned Jackson‘s removal of federal deposits from the Bank of the United States as exceeding the President‘s constitutional power. In the cartoon Benton says, ‘Solitary and alone and amidst the jeers and taunts of my opponents I put this Ball in motion.‘ The quotation comes from Benton‘s 1834 speech given in the Senate, stating his intention to move to expunge the censure. Benton‘s campaign earned him scorn from the opposition and, initially, little support from friend、クレジット:World History Archive/ニューズコム/共同通信イメージズ※エディトリアル使用のみ。広告、プロモーション、商業目的での利用に関してはお問合せください。

The man on the left is using a sharp knife, perhaps to remove a bud for grafting, while the man on the rights is grafting new wood on to the stump of a tree, a procedure often followed when it was necessary to rejuvenate an old tree. architectural feature on the facade of the Doge‘s Palace in Venice

(Detail) architectural feature on the facade of the Doge‘s Palace in Venice, Italy. The palace was the residence of the Doge of Venice, the supreme authority of the Republic of Venice. Its two most visible facdes look towards the Venetian Lagoon and St. Mark‘s Square, or rather the Piazzetta. The use of arcading in the lower stories produces an interesting ‘gravity-defying‘ effect. There is also effective use of colour contrasts. largely constructed from 1309 to 1424, designed perhaps by Filippo Calendario. It replaced earlier fortified buildings of which relatively little is known. Giovanni and Bartolomeo Bon created the Porta della Carta in 1442, a monumental late-gothic gate on the Piazzetta side of the palace. This gate leads to a central courtyard. The palace was badly damaged by a fire on December 20, 1577.、クレジット:World History Archive/ニューズコム/共同通信イメージズ
