Action by Extinction Rebellion in Berlin

11 June 2020, Berlin: On the Marshall Bridge over the Spree River in Berlin‘s government district, remnants of the dye uranine have remained, which activists from Extinction Rebellion (XR) used to turn parts of the water poisonous green during the “Coal Poisoned“ campaign. The activists want to use it to draw attention to the far-reaching damage that coal mining has caused to people and the environment. In addition to the water of the Spree in the government district, water from the Spree in Zerre (Lusatia) and water from the Ruhr in Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, was also coloured. According to the Extinction Rebellion, the rivers are exemplary for a large number of water bodies that have been and are being contaminated by coal mining.
