  「新華社」武漢東湖に「水中の森」出現湖北省

  「新華社」「母なる川」よみがえる海南省海口市

  中国の熱帯沿岸都市、海南省海口市を流れる美舎河は「母なる川」として市民に親しまれ、中国水利部が先月発表した「中国で最も美しい河川１１選」にも入選した。澄んだ水に緑豊かな岸辺、美しい自然環境に恵まれたこの川が、かつては汚れて悪臭を放っていたとは想像もつかない。美舎河は全長約１６キロ、海口市を南北に流れる。１９９０年代以前は、川底が見えるほど水の澄んだ美しい川だった。しかし経済発展や人口増加、都市化の進展に伴い、深刻な汚染に見舞われ、川面にはごみが浮かび、水質は悪化した。川沿いの住民は夏場も窓を開けられないほどで、引っ越しを余儀なくされるケースもあった。同市は２０１６年４月、河川環境の整備に着手した。排水施設などインフラの不備といった問題を根本的に解決するとともに、生態系の復元に注力。川沿いのコンクリート護岸を撤去して、両岸に樹木や草を植え、セキショウモやフサモなどの沈水植物で川底を覆い、両岸にマングローブを根付かせ、魚や鳥を誘引するなどして「呼吸できる水界生態系」を構築し、河川の自己修復能力や浄化能力を高めた。同市はさらに、省内で初めて「河長制」（河川の管理や保護活動を行う責任者を地方政府の指導層から指名する制度）を導入し、美舎河の環境整備を大々的に進め、生態系復元という理念の実現確保に向けた。数年にわたる総合的な環境整備と生態系の復元によって美舎河はよみがえり、市の新しい顔にもなった。（記者／周慧敏、郭程） ＝配信日： ２０２２（令和４）年３月２３日、クレジット：新華社／共同通信イメージズ
