-Model for the tomb of Maerten Harpertsz Tromp by Rombout Verhulst (1624-1698) terracottaModel for the tomb of Maerten Harpertsz Tromp by Rombout Verhulst (1624-1698) terracotta, oak, 1654. In his design for the tomb of Maerten Harpertsz Tromp, Rombout Verhulst chose to represent the naval hero wearing his armour, his head resting on a cannon with the medal he was once awarded in one hand, his commander‘s baton in the other. The admiral was killed on 3 August 1653 off the coast of South Holland by English cannon fire. Hiss real tomb is made of marble and stands in the Oude Kerk in Delft.、クレジット:World History Archive/ニューズコム/共同通信イメージズ ※エディトリアル使用のみ。広告、プロモーション、商業目的での利用に関してはお問合せください。

Crowds and trams on a Tokyo street decked with bunting and national, military and naval flags during the celebration of Admiral Togo‘s visit in October 1905. This visit was part of the victory celebrations for the Russo-Japanese War. The Combined Fleet of the Imperial Japanese Navy, commanded by Admiral Togo Heihachiro (1848-1934), destroyed the Russian Baltic Fleet at the Battle of Tsushima in May 1905. The war ended with the Treaty of Portsmouth (5 September 1905). Admiral Togo‘s reputation as a naval hero in Japan led him to be named the ‘Nelson of the East‘ by Western journalists.、クレジット:LIBRARY OF CONGRESS/Science Photo Library/共同通信イメージズ

2010年03月21日Daily Life In ChileThe coat of arms of the Republic of Chile made out of copper on display in Santiago, Chile, on March 21, 2010. It is made up by a figurative background divided in two equal parts: the top one is blue and the bottom, red. A five pointed white star is in the centre of the shield. This background is supported in one side by a condor, the most significant bird of prey from the Andes, and in the other, by a huemul, the most singular and rare mammal of the Chilean territory. The navy‘s golden crown, symbol of the heroic deeds of the Chilean Navy in the Pacific Ocean is on the head of the condor.
