    修繕を終えた本覚大師益信の廟塔

    修繕を終えた益信の廟塔を前に読経する僧侶たち。真言宗を代表する平安時代の高僧で数少ない「大師」の一人、本覚大師益信(827~906年)の供養塔として、生誕地の広島県福山市新市町宮内にある廟塔の修繕工事が完了し3月12日、広島県内の僧侶が記念法要を行った。廟塔は1933年、備後、備中地域や京都の真言宗の寺が中心となり建立した五輪宝塔。石がずれて傾くなどしていたため、2027年の生誕1200年を前に、地元住民や各寺でつくる顕彰会が修繕を計画。昨年12月から工事した。益信は空海の弟・真雅に弟子入りし、京都・東寺ではトップに当たる長者を務めた。=2025(令和7)年3月12日、広島県福山市新市町、クレジット:山陽新聞/共同通信イメージズ
