    “Fertility Clinic“ at the University Hospital

    28 January 2020, Rhineland-Palatinate, Mainz: Verena Holze, reproduction biologist, sits in front of the monitor of the Timelaps Imaging System and looks at images of embryos. The Time-lapse Imaging System (T-lIS) allows an assessment of embryonic development from the time of fertilization of the egg to the development into a blastocyst. At the University Hospital in Mainz there is a Centre for Preimplantation Genetic Diagnostics (PID), the only one in Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse. In PGD, an embryo created in a test tube is used to check whether embryos show possible gene variations that could lead to diseases, disabilities or miscarriages, or are the reason for a lack of pregnancy.
