Giant funeral cloth for victims of mass suicide

07 May 2020, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Demmin: In the chancel of St. Bartholomaei Church, Karsten Wolkenhauer, pastor, is standing next to a huge funeral cloth that has just been hung. 75 years after the end of the Second World War it is meant to commemorate the victims of Demmin‘s mass suicide. The twelve meter long cloth consists of many square pieces with different crosses, on which people from Germany and Denmark sewed for months. Between 500 and over 1000 inhabitants of the village had taken their own lives when Soviet troops invaded in 1945. Photo: Bernd Wüstneck/dpa-Zentralbild/dpa、クレジット:DPA/共同通信イメージズ
