The Mevlüde Genç Medal was awarded to Berrissoun, co-initiator and director of the Cologne-based organisation “180 Grad Wende“, which fights against disorientation, radicalisation and crime with its projects. The award goes back to Mevlüde Genç, who lost two daughters, two grandchildren and a niece in an arson attack by right-wing extremist youths in Solingen on 29 May 1993. 17 family members suffered injuries, some of them serious.
