Ichikawa Danjuro II in the Role of Soga Goro from the Play ‘Yanone‘, Edo period (1615–1868), ca. 1820, Japan, Polychrome woodblock print (surimono); ink and color on paper, 8 7/16 x 7 3/16 in. (21.4 x 18.3 cm), Prints, Torii Kiyomine (Japanese, 1787–1868), Torii Kiyomitsu II, a grandson of Kiyomitsu I, became the fifth grandmaster of the Torii school after Kiyonaga, the fourth grandmaster, who died in 1815. The Tring Tiles, Medieval, c1325.

The Tring Tiles, Medieval, c1325. Set of outstanding tiles with images drawn from apocryphal legends from the ‘unofficial‘ life of Christ. Most contain two scenes, and can be read like a comic strip, although missing scenes disturb the continuity of the stories; a tile showing the reaping of corn miraculously multiplied to a vast amount is combined with an unconnected incident. Other tiles concentrate on the charity and wisdom of Jesus. They probably decorated a wall rather than a floor, and the sgraffito design may indicate that they were produced at Tring in Hertfordshire where this technique was popular on pottery. M&ME, 1922,4-12,1-8. Location: British Museum, London, Great Britain.、クレジット:Erich Lessing/Album/共同通信イメージズ ※エディトリアル使用のみ。表紙、広告、プロモーション、商業目的での利用はお問合せください。クレジットは必ず表記してください。

Bird ringer on bird protection island

30 July 2019, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Langenwerder: Veiko Lehsten, climate impact researcher and honorary bird warden, lets a young swallow fly again after measuring and ringing on the bird protection island Langenwerder near Wismar. The island in Wismar Bay, which has been a nature reserve since 1937, is Mecklenburg‘s oldest seabird sanctuary. The continuances of many brood and migratory birds on the small Baltic Sea-island decrease. In the 1980s, 5,000 pairs of storm gulls were still breeding in Germany‘s oldest seabird sanctuary. This year it‘s still about 2,000. Photo: Jens Büttner/dpa-Zentralbild/dpa、クレジット:DPA/共同通信イメージズ
