April 21, 2021, DUNEDIN, Florida, USA: Deette Hildebrand, of Scheboygan, Wisconsin, navigates rocks while walking a section of Oasis Beach at Honeymoon Island State Park on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, where a $2-million beach renourishment project is scheduled to begin this week with plans to bring 158,000 cubic yards of sand onto the parkââ¬â¢s beach where a constant assault by waves, storms and tides have eroded sand from the beachfront and parking areas at the popular state park. The park will remain open as sand dredged from nearby Hurricane Pass is redistributed on the beach over the next 120 days. The plan also includes covering large areas of rocks which have become revealed by the erosion and make the beaches treacherous for swimmers and walkers. The rocks date back to the 1960s, when a developer who envisioned building homes and other projects on the island attempted to double its size by dumping fill material. The parking lots are built on top of that material, which is washed away during storms....
