    Travel News - April 4, 2020

April 4, 2020, Alberta, Canada: Venus above the Pleiades star cluster, M45, on April 4, 2020, in the twilight and moonlight. Light from the gibbous Moon illuminated the sky, so no long exposure would reveal much detail in and around the Pleiades. Venus passes close to the Pleiades only every 8 years. It was closer the night before, but alas, there were clouds! Some light cloud this night added the glow. ..This is a stack of multiple exposures of varying lengths: 2 minutes, 30 seconds, 10 seconds and 2 seconds, blended with masks to prevent Venus from being too blown out while still recording the stars. All were with the SharpStar 140mm PH apo refractor with the 0.73x flattener/reducer for f/4.8 and at ISO 400 with the Canon EOS Ra. Travel News - April 8, 2019

April 8, 2019, Wheatland County: The 4-day-old waxing crescent Moon on April 8, 2019 with it below Mars (at top) and the star clusters, the Hyades (at left, with reddish Aldebaran) and Pleiades (at right) in Taurus, and set into the deep blue evening twilight...This is with the 135mm Canon telephoto at f/2.8 with the Canon 6D at ISO 400, in a blend of 7 exposures from 1/4 second to 8 seconds, blended with luminosity masks from ADP Pro3 extension panel in Photoshop, to prevent the Moon from being too overexposed while retaining the stars and blue sky. The camera was tracking the sky. I added an Orton effect glow to the stars for artistic effect, with a star mask to limit the glows to just the stars. I really needed a 105mm lens for this, as the framing is pretty tight! Oh, well! (Credit Image: © Alan Dyer/VW Pics via ZUMA Wire)、クレジット:©Alan Dyer/VW Pics via ZUMA Wire/共同通信イメージズ

    Travel News - March 29, 2019

March 29, 2019: Orion, Sirius, Taurus, the Pleiades, and the winter sky setting in the spring twilight sky, March 29, 2019, at Dinosaur Provincial Park, Alberta. Lingering twilight adds the blue sky naturally, during the last moments of a “blue hour.†..This is an HDR and luminosity mask blend of 6 exposures to retain detail in the dark foreground and bright twilight. The sky and stars come from a single exposure, with the exception of a shorter exposure blended in for the bright twilight area. A little unintended light painting from headlights from another visiting photographer painted the hill to the left. All with the Sigma 24mm Art lens and Nikon D750. An soft focus Orton glow effect added to the ground with Luminar plugin. This is a good demo of Rule of Thirds and leading lines composition elements. Travel News - December 15, 2018

December 15, 2018: This is Comet Wirtanen 46P in Taurus on December 14/15, 2018 accompanied by a meteor, caught by chance of course. The meteor has left a yellowish “smoke†cloud. ..Yellowish Aldebaran and the Hyades are at bottom, the pink California Nebula (NGC 1499) is at top, in Perseus, while the blue Pleiades are at centre. They form a nice colour contrast with the cyan-green comet. The Taurus Dark Clouds of interstellar dust are at left. ..Comet Wirtanen was two days before its closest approach to Earth and nearly at its brightest. It was visible to the unaided eye. ..I got a chance to capture this and other views after Chinook clouds cleared off near midnight on Dec 14/15. ..This is a stack of 5 x 2-minute exposures with the filter-modified Canon 5D MkII camera at ISO 800 with the Sigma 50mm lens at f/2.8. The meteor is from one of those frames. The camera was on the Star Adventurer tracker. (Credit Image: © Alan Dyer/VW Pics via ZUMA Wire)、クレジット:©Alan Dyer/VW Pics via ZUMA Wire/共同通信イメージズ
