日米開戦の地となったハワイ・オアフ島の真珠湾。エメラルドグリーンの海の底に大きな船影が横たわり、その真上に純白の慰霊施設が浮かぶ。上空からは十字架のようにも見える。旧日本軍の攻撃で沈没した戦艦アリゾナの上に「アリゾナ記念館」は設けられている。今月下旬、安倍晋三首相がオバマ米大統領と共に慰霊に訪れることになった。1941年12月7日(日本時間8日)の奇襲で米国人約2400人が亡くなり、中でもアリゾナでは1177人の乗組員が死亡した。 〈映像内容〉ハワイ・オアフ島の真珠湾の戦艦アリゾナの上にある「アリゾナ記念館」の空撮。現地時間12月13日午後1時半ごろ撮影。

1999年09月03日男たちの戦場 百年史のトップニュース)、企画91S、11日付朝刊以降使用 コンブ漁が解禁となった7月21日早朝。知床岬突端から数キロの海に漁船が続々と集結した。かつて60軒以上のコンブ番屋が並んだ好漁場「赤岩」。コンブ乾燥機と船外機の普及に伴い、多くの人は町に拠点を移した。今では2軒だけ。幼いころ、浜に建つ盆踊りのやぐらがぼんやりと光っていたことを小倉毅はかすかに思い出す。今年も死んだおやじが建てた番屋(右後方)に家族で来た。客といえばヒグマぐらい。鹿の生骨が散乱する陸の孤島。「でも生活を支えるコンブの根がこの海の底にある」―コンブを採る木製のカギを握る手に力がこもる=北海道羅臼町(撮影・菅谷洋司)
