    「新華社」四川省の濛渓河遺跡洪水で姿を現した太古の世界

    中国四川省資陽市楽至県にある旧石器時代の濛渓河(もうけいが)遺跡は1月30日、2023年の中国六大考古新発見に選ばれた。遺跡は動物化石や埋木(うもれぎ)、植物の種子など多くの有機遺物が残る数少ない遺跡で、5万~7万年前の隠された太古の姿をわれわれに示している。四川省文物考古研究院旧石器考古研究所の鄭喆軒(てい・てつけん)所長によると、遺跡の年代は第四紀後期更新世。ステゴドンやケブカサイなど多くの大型動物が絶滅し、人類の生理学的特徴がすでに現生人類と一致していた時期にあたる。遺跡は2019年夏、洪水により1万年以上前の埋木や動物化石が地中から流出し、古代人が使っていた打製石器が露出したことで存在を確認。四川省文物考古研究院が中国科学院古脊椎動物・古人類研究所と合同で約2年の緊急発掘調査を行い、遺跡の様相をおおむね明らかにした。濛渓河沿岸では相互に関連性を持つ遺跡11カ所が見つかり、濛渓河遺跡群が形成された。暫定的な分析の結果、濛渓河遺跡は古代人が水辺に居住して形成されたものと判明。文化層は現在の濛渓河の水位より下に分布しており、水に浸された特殊な埋蔵環境により大量の有機物材料が残されていた。23年には石器や木器、骨器、動物化石が10万5千点余り、植物種子や果実、芽胞などの遺物6万点余りが出土したほか、火の使用や物を切断し、彫り刻み、磨くなど人類の活動痕跡が見つかった。鄭氏によると、遺跡に保存されていた有機遺物は植物遺存体がゾウやサイ、クマ、魚、鳥など陸海空に生息する大中小の肉食・草食類三十数種、動物植物遺存体が樹木や果実など三十数種に上り、大量のセッコツソウ(接骨草)やキンコツソウ(筋骨草)の発見は当時の人々が生薬でけがを治していた可能性を示している。一部の器物に残された刻痕は人々の間に精神的な追求が生じていたことを物語っている。多くの動植物資源は当時の環境や気候を理解するための貴重な材料になるという。鄭氏は「濛渓河遺跡は旧石器時代社会の場景を立体的に復元する数少ない遺跡だ。分野横断型の重大な発見であり、その意義は考古学にとどまらない」と語った。(記者/楊進) =配信日: 2024(令和6)年2月1日、クレジット:新華社/共同通信イメージズ
