20 December 2023, Saxony, Drebach: In a festive miner‘s outfit, Christian Mädler stands in front of a presentation of minerals in the new mining labyrinth at Scharfenstein Castle. From now on, children and families can explore the history of mining in the labyrinth. A reconstructed tunnel will open to visitors on December 26. As a new part of the permanent exhibition, it traces the arc from the first mining activities in the 12th century to the recognition of the Erzgebirge mining region as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019. Underground with the Steiger in the Ore Mountains

PRODUCTION - 12 December 2023, Saxony, Bad Schlema: Miner Jörg Neubert stands underground on the Markus-Semmler level of the Wismut mine in the Ore Mountains. 50 meters underground, the miners of the federally owned Wismut are cleaning up the legacy of uranium mining. Exposing and securing roadways is one of the main tasks of the 12 miners who work here together with foreman Jörg Neubert. The mine must be kept permanently open and drained. To this end, the entire underground mine is systematically ventilated. Otherwise, radioactive radon would escape uncontrollably in the region. The Steiger is often sung about at mining parades during these weeks, and since this year the Steigerlied has even been included in the intangible cultural heritage. Christmas traditions in Saxony are also closely interwoven with the centuries-old mining industry, which continues to this day. To do this, the entire underground mine is systematically ventilated. Otherwise, radioactive radon would escape uncontrollably in the region. The Steiger is often sung about at mining parades during these weeks, and since this year the Steigerlied has even been part of the intangible cultural heritage. Christmas traditions in Saxony are also closely interwoven with the centuries-old mining industry, which continues to this day. Photo: Hendrik Schmidt/dpa、クレジット:DPA/共同通信イメージズ

Photo: Hendrik Schmidt/dpa、クレジット:DPA/共同通信イメージズ

La Samaritaine XMas Windows Unveiling - Paris

An acrobat stands with a sweets cake during the ceremony of Samaritaine‘s Christmas window displays revealing in Paris on November 8, 2023. Since 1869, La Samaritaine, with its boldly-lettered Art Nouveau facade looming over the Seine River and the Pont Neuf bridge, had been a reliable fixture in the city landscape. But due to major building safety concerns and some dubious business decisions, the nineteenth-century store so dear to many Parisians closed its doors in 2005. Fifteen years after its closure, La Samaritaine re-opened in June 2021 after an extensive revamp. The two buildings making up the site host a large department store of the same name, in line with its heritage. The shopping concept is decidedly luxury-focused, with a dizzying selection of designer brands and artisanal products, from women’s and men’s fashion and accessories to luxury beauty and perfumery, jewelry and watches, home design and gadgets.
