「Newscom」 UPI POY 2019 Astronomers have uncovered a black hole that may have sparked the birth of stars over a phenomenal distance of more than a million light-years and across multiple galaxies. This is a rare example of “positive feedback“ where a black hole is helping to spur star formation, not suppress it. This image, released on November 26, 2019, and discovered by researchers using X-rays from Chandra, radio waves from the VLA, and optical light from ground-based telescopes, contains a black hole that is triggering a star formation across the longest distance ever seen. 「Newscom」 UPI POY 2019 Desperately cold weather is now gripping the Midwest and Northern Plains of the United States, as well as interior Canada. The culprit is a familiar one: the polar vortex. This map shows air temperatures around 6.5 feet above the ground at 4 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on January 29, 2019, as represented by the Goddard Earth Observing System Model. A large area of low pressure and extremely cold air usually swirls over the Arctic, with strong counter-clockwise winds that trap the cold around the Pole. But disturbances in the jet stream and the intrusion of warmer mid-latitude air masses can disturb this polar vortex and make it unstable, sending Arctic air south into middle latitudes.
