Dinosaur tracks in Saxony-Anhalt 19 August 2020, Saxony-Anhalt, Mammendorf: The quarry of the hard stone factory Mammendorf of the Cronenberg stone industry. Geologists from the Museum of Natural History Magdeburg search for traces of dinosaurs in the slagheaps of the stone works. The traces had been pressed into the clayey soil by dinosaurs about 260 million years ago. The habitat was relatively dry but the area was regularly flooded by heavy rain. The rainwater quickly evaporated again and the loamy soil dried out and petrified. Since 2016, scientists have been regularly searching for dinosaur tracks in the quarry‘s slagheaps.
