BigBattery storage project in the Lausitz region 09 January 2020, Brandenburg, Schwarze Pumpe: Workers load a container with lithium-ion batteries at the construction site of BigBattery Lausitz, which is located directly next to a cooling tower on the site of the lignite-fired Schwarze Pumpe power plant of Lausitz Energie Bergbau AG (LEAG). According to the operators, BigBattery Lausitz will become one of the largest battery storage facilities in Europe. The BigBattery is to store an electricity mix of lignite and renewable energies from summer 2020. The plant has 53 megawatt hours (MWh) of usable storage capacity.
