21 March 2020, Brandenburg, Mallnow: In the early morning an Adonis rose blooms on the Oderbruch slopes in the district of Märkisch-Oderland. The mild temperatures of the last few days have led to the blossoming of the Adonis roses particularly early this year. The area between Lebus an der Oder and Mallnow on the Oderbruch edge in East Brandenburg is one of the largest contiguous Adonis rose areas in Europe. In Brandenburg these strictly protected species only occur on the Pontic Hills north of Frankfurt (Oder). The area was declared a dry grassland nature reserve for the poisonous flowers in 1984.
